From solar PV to energy efficiency, it will take a concerted industry-wide effort to decarbonize our society. Microgrids are emerging across the U.S. to provide versatility in balancing load requirements with a diverse generation and storage mix. These systems serve a collection of individual households, businesses or industrial facilities. In this session, we will explore the design principles, value and replicability of neighborhood and commercial microgrids, coupled with building electrification, through several case studies, notably the Oakland EcoBlock, a microgrid prototype on the block-neighborhood-district scale.
